ClickBank Expands to International Markets

The ClickBank affiliate network has announced that they’ve expanded the services offered to international markets.

While ClickBank serves more than 114 countries on 6 continents, they just recently initiated a phased approach of translating the order form and all customer related material into German, Spanish and French.

They completed that phase last year, and just completed phase two: translation of the entire ClickBank site into German, Spanish and French.

In addition to offering content in multiple languages, ClickBank accepts 13 international currencies, including the Euro, the British Pound, and the Swedish and Danish Kroner.

The Result of Online Sales TaxFlorida State Senator Nancy Detert has announced that she is continuing to research requiring merchants to collect sales tax on online sales, and it appears likely that legislation will be introduced in Florida during the upcoming legislative session, according to Affiliate Advocacy.

Hopefully, as Senator Detert researches the matter, she will realize that this legislation could very well have a negative economic impact on the state.

Just as the scenario played out in New York, companies will remove their affiliates in Florida to avoid establishment of a tax nexus. Those affiliates aren’t faceless entities – they are Floridians who run small businesses across the state.

When these affiliates are fired, they will have less taxable income for the state coffers, and the skyrocketing unemployment rate in Florida (11.2% in September 2009 – Data source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics) will continue to swell.

And still no incremental sales tax will be levied.

Back in April 2009, LinkShare mapped out the locations of affiliates in the state of Florida. The map tells a stark story about the negative impact in Florida of an online sales tax.

Florida affiliates are encouraged to contact their Senators and Representatives to convey the impact of this tax (resources to take action).

ShareASale ThinkTank 2009 Recap

I just got back from ShareASale ThinkTank 2009, which took place October 23-25, 2009 at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, CA.

ThinkTank wasn’t a typical affiliate network event. It’s exclusive, and all invited affiliates (there is an application process) are treated to the weekend’s accommodations, food, and entertainment.

The first day started with attendees playing golf with CEO Brian Littleton. Some of us weren’t accomplished golfers, so we took to the course in a golf cart to heckle and network.

Shawn Collins removes Jason Rubacy from the golf course.

Afterwards, there was a welcome reception that was great for catching up with old friends in the industry and meeting lots of new ones.

Some attendees were so taken aback by the networking that they jumped in a fountain to sort of recreate the “Friends” opening.

The next morning kicked off with a networking breakfast, followed by a series of sessions.

Lunchtime was another opportunity for getting together for some business. Many companies had dedicated tables, so folks attending ThinkTank could drop by, ask questions, and get acquainted.

Then there was a four hour period where merchants hosted cabanas around the pool, and affiliates signed up for meetings.

Saturday night was open and a bunch of us got together for a dinner, and then some business talk back at the hotel.

The final day kicked off with yet another tasty networking event, followed by the closing ShareASale “Things We Need to Fix” Session.

ShareASale ThinkTank Things We Need to Change Session

This is a sort of town hall meeting where any attendees can bring up things they’d like to see changed, improved, etc. about ShareASale.

I’d say this was my favorite portion of the ShareASale ThinkTank, as anybody could add their two cents, and while Brian Littleton presided over the session, the ShareASale crew logged all of the suggestions.

ShareASale ThinkTank Logging Things They Need to Change

People in the crowd could either take the microphone or share their opinions anonymously.

ShareASale gets comedy points for the signs being held up during sessions to prompt the crowds for laughter, applause, etc.

ShareASale ThinkTank Laughter and Applause

This was the fourth ThinkTank, but my first, and it left me wondering why I didn’t make it to the previous years. But I plan to make it next year for sure.
